The greenhouse gas Methane is 23 times more potent than CO2, and is what cattle produce while digesting food. A typical family (internal combustion) car produces a comparable carbon footprint to the average dairy cow. There are some 260 million dairy cows on the planet. We have a U. S. patent (7820171) that suggests we can reduce or eliminate these emissions from cattle, with the potential to take the equivalent of 260 million cars off the road.
The FDA has recently (spring, 2024) approved a feed additive that claims to reduce ruminant methane emissions up to 30%, with expected U. S. revenues in excess of $200M. The global market projections for methane reduction in cows is $1 - 2 B. Our in vitro trials suggest a possible reduction in methane emissions of between 60% and 80%.
